Ingredients for Your Christmas NYC Cookies
Alright, let’s talk ingredients! Here’s what you’ll need to make these amazing Christmas NYC Cookies. Don’t skimp, okay? Good ingredients = good cookies!
- 125g unsalted butter (softened! Seriously, don’t forget this!)
- 175g light brown soft sugar (make sure it’s packed in when you measure!)
- 1 large egg (or a medium one if that’s all you’ve got!)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (the good stuff if you can!)
- 300g plain flour (all-purpose, whatever you call it!)
- One and a half tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1/2 tsp sea salt (trust me on this, it makes a difference!)
- 100g milk chocolate chips
- 100g dark chocolate chips
- 100g green and red M&Ms (or whatever festive candies you like!)
For Decoration:
- 100 to 150g dark or milk chocolate (for melting!)

How to Prepare Christmas NYC Cookies: Step-by-Step Instructions
Okay, let’s get down to business! Here’s how we turn those ingredients into glorious Christmas NYC Cookies. Don’t worry, it’s easier than you think! Just follow along, and you’ll be munching on warm, chocolate-y goodness in no time.
Preparing the Cookie Dough
First things first, cream together that softened butter and brown sugar until it’s all light and fluffy. I use an electric mixer, but you can totally do it by hand if you’re feeling strong! Then, beat in the egg and vanilla extract until everything’s combined. Next, gently mix in the flour, baking powder, bicarb, and salt. Don’t overmix! Just until it comes together into a dough. Finally, stir in those chocolate chips and M&Ms. Yum!
Chilling and Baking Your Christmas NYC Cookies
Now, this is important: chill that dough! Roll the dough into about eight big balls (they should be around 120g each!). Stick ’em in the freezer for at least 30 minutes (or the fridge for an hour). Trust me, this keeps them from spreading too thin in the oven. While they’re chilling, preheat your oven to 180 degrees C (fan). Pop those chilled dough balls onto a lined baking tray and bake for 11-13 minutes. Don’t overbake them! You want them slightly soft in the middle.

Decorating the Christmas NYC Cookies
Once the cookies are completely cool, melt your chocolate. I usually just microwave it in short bursts, stirring in between. Then, dunk each cookie halfway into the melted chocolate and place them back on the lined baking tray. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle generously with those festive Christmas sprinkles! Let the chocolate set completely, and then… dig in!

Tips for the Best Christmas NYC Cookies
Want to take your Christmas NYC Cookies to the next level? Of course, you do! Here are my top tips for cookie perfection. First, **don’t overbake** them! Seriously, slightly underbaked is way better than dry and crumbly. I always use **high-quality chocolate** because it makes a HUGE difference in flavor. And most important, **chill that dough!** Don’t skip that step. It’s the key to those thick, chewy, NYC-style cookies we all crave! Trust me on this one!
Ingredient Notes and Substitutions for Christmas NYC Cookies
Okay, let’s talk swaps! Don’t have everything on hand? Don’t panic! If you want a softer texture, try adding a tablespoon of cornstarch and reduce the flour by 25g. It’s my little secret! You can use whatever chocolate you like – white, dark, even those fancy flavored bars! Just chop ’em up. Not a fan of M&Ms? Use any red and green candy you fancy! Get creative and make these Christmas NYC Cookies your own!
Frequently Asked Questions About Christmas NYC Cookies
Got questions? I got answers! Here are some of the most common things people ask me about these amazing Christmas NYC Cookies:
Can I use different types of chocolate? Absolutely! This recipe is super flexible. Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, even chopped-up candy bars – go wild! Just make sure the chunks aren’t too huge, or they might make the cookies fall apart.
How long do the cookies last? If you can resist eating them all in one sitting (good luck with that!), these Christmas NYC Cookies will stay fresh for about 4-5 days. Keep them in an airtight container, and they’ll be just as delicious as the day you baked them!
Can I freeze the dough? You bet! This is a great way to get ahead of the holiday baking rush. Just roll the dough into balls, pop them on a baking sheet, and freeze them until solid. Then, transfer them to a freezer bag. You can bake them straight from frozen – just add a couple of extra minutes to the baking time.
What if I don’t have M&Ms? No problem! Use any red and green candies you like. Chocolate chips, sprinkles, even chopped-up gumdrops would work! It’s all about adding that festive touch to your Christmas NYC Cookies!
Can I make the cookies smaller? Sure thing! If you want to make regular-sized cookies (about 60g each), just bake them for around 9 minutes. They won’t be quite as impressively HUGE as the NYC-style ones, but they’ll still be delicious!
How to Store Your Christmas NYC Cookies
So, you’ve baked a batch of these amazing Christmas NYC Cookies… and somehow, you haven’t eaten them all yet? Wow, you’ve got more willpower than I do! To keep ’em fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature. They’ll last for about 4-5 days. Wanna save some for later? You can freeze the baked cookies, too! Just wrap them individually and pop them in a freezer bag. They’ll be ready for a festive treat whenever you need one!

- Cook Time: 12 minutes
- Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
- Yield: 8 cookies 1x
- Category: Dessert
- Method: Baking
- Cuisine: American
- Diet: Vegetarian
Description
Make delicious Christmas NYC cookies with chocolate chips and festive sprinkles.
Ingredients
- 125 g unsalted butter
- 175 g light brown soft sugar
- 1 large or medium egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 300 g plain flour
- One and a half tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 100 g milk chocolate chips
- 100 g dark chocolate chips
- 100 g green or red M and Ms
Decoration
- 100 to 150 g dark or milk chocolate
- Christmas sprinkles
Instructions
- Add the unsalted butter and light brown soft sugar to a bowl and beat until creamy.
- Add in the egg and vanilla extract and beat again.
- Add in the plain flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, and sea salt and beat until a cookie dough is formed.
- Add in the milk chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips and M and Ms and beat until they are distributed well.
- Weigh the cookies out into eight cookie dough balls, they are about 120g each.
- Once they are rolled into balls, put your cookie dough in the freezer for at least 30 minutes, or in the fridge for an hour or so.
- Whilst the cookie dough is chilling, preheat your oven to 180 degrees C Fan, or 200 degrees C regular. If your oven runs hot, go for 160 degrees C to 170 degrees C.
- Take your cookies out of the freezer or fridge and put onto a lined baking tray. I put four cookies per tray.
- Bake the cookies in the oven for 11 to 13 minutes. I do not personally flatten the cookies, as they flatten enough during baking. However, if you like flat cookies, flatten them a bit before baking.
- Once baked, leave them to cool on the tray fully.
- Once cooled, melt the dark or milk chocolate for the decoration, and then dunk each cookie halfway into the chocolate and rest on a lined baking tray.
- Sprinkle each cookie whilst still wet with christmas sprinkles, and then leave to set fully.
- Enjoy.
Notes
- Once baked, these will last for 4 to 5 days or more.
- You can freeze the raw, shaped cookie dough for 3 months or more and bake straight from frozen, this takes 12 to 14 minutes.
- You can use any chocolate you fancy, I just love the combination of milk and dark chocolate.
- You can use chocolate bars chopped up instead of chocolate chips, just make sure the chunks are not too big.
- If you want a lovely texture, you can add in 1 level tbsp of cornflour, and take out 25g of the flour.
- I used dark chocolate on the decoration but you can use any.
- You can use any green and red chocolate sweets, but I used M and Ms.
- If you want to make smaller cookies that are then not NYC style (60g), they take about 9 minutes to bake.
